| Name: | Berith, Duke of the Eighth Circle |
|---|

Name: Berith
Angelic Name: Baraqiel
Eyes: Brown, gold in certain light (side effect of the alchemy talent)
Hair: Dark brown
Height: 6 feet
Wiki article on Berith states that he is usually considered a big liar when not answering questions. He is a Duke of Hell with 26 legions at his command.
Well, probably not anymore. In Phoenicia he was worshipped by the people as a version of Baal (giving him some small powers that other demons don't have), and he kind of liked the attention. It led to him seeking out worship from other populations, but he eventually grew tired of having to stick to smaller, more suspicious groups, and he ended up back in larger countries like the US, England, France, China etc., and started acting as an incarnation of Lucifer in Satanist churches. Which, as we all know, is not a really good idea.
Berith is in a spot of trouble. Lucifer has told him that he will suffer pretty nasty punishments in Hell for his actions unless he can Fell an angel within a century. So he's going to have to make sure he can get that done. (This is likely not because Lucifer actually cares about getting angel's felled, but more because he thinks it's impossible for Berith to do it.)
He also has some history with Raguel: he was his apprentice of sorts in Heaven, and they were very close as mentor and pupil. The reason Berith fell was because when God told the angels that they should worship Adam and Eve, Berith was one of the ones who refused, feeling that love for God should go above all else, and that humanity was created after the angels, so they were the ones deserving of respect from humanity. He felt that Raguel was certain to side with him, thinking his opinion just. Raguel did not agree. Berith viewed this as a complete betrayal, one of the things that led to his very bitter outlook on the universe in general.
Berith believes in a meshing of heaven and hell and earth because it's not just "names for sides" to him: he does not believe that two sides exist, which makes him a little more extreme than even Crowley and Aziraphale in his views; everything is in grey. In his opinion, "ineffability" is just a cowardly way of never having to explain your actions, and after all he's seen he has come to the decision that God doesn't know what he's doing with the whole gameboard any more than anyone else.
He is usually always smoking something, but generally prefers a hookah or a pipe. He also has a real knack for alchemy and loves turning things into gold on a whim. He obtained a special power over gold that no other demon has; objects that he morphs into gold attract a human more than regular gold and will entice them to greed far easier. He tends to adopt the accent/language of whatever country he is in, unless he has something crafty up his sleeve. Therefore, while in England, he will sound English.
At the manor, Berith will be there to sew discord like any good demon, as actively as he can manage because enjoys it, not because he's on orders to do so. Definitely a one-on-one worker because he thinks that's more interesting than doing large scale work. He finds fighting distasteful and a waste of his precious energy. He's generally kind of lazy in that regard, and it's hard to get a rise out of him (most of the time). He possesses endless and unnerving patience when it comes to getting what he wants.
